Let’s rock for bowls

LINDEN –

Linden Bowling Club has had its greens open for close to 60 years and like every building that has seen this many years, an upgrade to facilities is needed.

President of the club, Darrel Johnston said that the club’s promotion and development committee, comprising mainly of a number of its younger members of the club, embarked on a massive refurbishment of the club premises in 2015. “Already the committee has achieved over 60 per cent of its original targets,” said Johnston.

Johnston went on to divulge that one of the clubs latest projects entail the upgrade of the former women’s bar into a facility. “Here we plan to host small conferences and meetings for outside groups as a future regular source of income,” explained Johnston.

He also added that they were encouraged to make the club more functional to all members of the community.

The club plans to raise funds by hosting a special performance of the hit show ‘Rock Royalty’ at the Barnyard Theatre at Cresta. This matinee performance is a way to get all members of the community rocking out to some classic tunes. “We wanted it in the afternoon so that everyone could enjoy it, young and old coming together in a picnic set up and enjoying great music,” said Johnston.

The event is set to take place on 2 May and the public is asked to come and show their support by bringing their picnic lunches and dancing shoes.
