Golf amateurs stay under par in championship

KELLAND – The latest developments for competitors at the Nomads SA Boys U17 Championship.

Boland Golf junior Herman Loubser has continued his lead in the Nomads SA Boys U17 Championship and a one-under-par 71 in the third round, saw him stretch his lead to five strokes at Randpark Golf Club on 9 July.

Loubser (16) from Theewaterskloof Golf Club has won the 2014 Nomads SA Boys U15 Championship last year and is primed for a possible second national victory on 10 July.

Tournament director David Young said he and SAGA golf integration manager Eden Thompson were quite impressed with Otto von Buynder’s effort. “Given the tough set up, Otto’s 67 was a really exceptional score,” he said.

Young pointed out that the conditions were absolutely perfect for scoring, “We only moved some of the tees back to lengthen the course and tucked a few pins into tricky spots,” he said.

He explained that the tournament will do the same in the final round to give the juniors a good test. “After we set up the course, Eden and I speculated that a 69, or possibly a 68, would be the low score. We were both pleasantly surprised that Otto got around in 67 and Deon in 68 strokes,” he concluded.
