Cameron hits for six

RANDPARK RIDGE – Brunner hits six for his World Cup indoor team.

Cameron Brunner (15) has been selected for the U18 World Cup indoor team for South Africa.

The Rand Park High 1st team cricket player started his indoor cricket career when he filled in for his friend’s indoor cricket team in 2013. It was during these matches that a West Gauteng coach asked him to attend trials. Brunner then made it into the West Gauteng U14 squad. He played his first Inter-provincial Tournament (IPT) in Umhlanga that same year.

Last year, Brunner was asked to play for the older U16 West Gauteng team.

His U16 team went on to win gold at this IPT, where he was also awarded an “All Stars” certificate – awarded to the top 10 best players for each age group.

During the IPT, coaches of the opposing provincial teams chose notable players and he was one of the players nominated. Through this nomination he was then selected to participate in the SA U18 trials.

In January, the talented Brunner was chosen for the top 12 SA touring U18 players.

Brunner will be representing SA at the Indoor Cricket Junior World Cup in Brisbane, Australia, at the end of September. Brunner said, “It is a once in a life time opportunity. I am truly blessed and lucky to have been given this chance.”

Peter, Cameron’s father said, “We are overwhelmingly proud of our son, it just shows that hard work pays off.”

He also plays summer outdoor cricket for Randburg Cricket Club and for Rand Park High School’s 1st team, and has made the top 20 in the district team.

He further added, “People shouldn’t give up on their dreams. They should persevere because dreams really do come true.”
