Casual bowls for Bags of Hope

BORDEAUX – Old Parktonian Bowling Club hosts its annual charity event in honour of a late member.

Women and men bowlers came in their droves to participate in the annual charity event hosted at the Old Parktonian’s Bowls Club on 4 March.

The event was created in memory of a late member Sheila Fox, who died about 10 years ago.

As Fox was avidly involved in charity work, the club decided, “to get involved in supporting charities,” said event conveyor Eileen Breakey.

It is the 11th year that the club has been hosting the event.

Clubs from all over Gauteng participated in a fun afternoon of bowls and a delightful lunch provided by the club.

The theme this year was Casual or Civvies.

The men and women came dressed in anything colourful. Each member had to pay an entry fee, a portion of which will be donated to a charity.

Bags of Hope was named as the charity that will benefit from the event.

The organisation is run by a group of women who collect goodie bags for abused women. The bags consist of toiletries and general women necessities.

A whooping 12 teams joined in on the game – each team has four players with 15 ends.

“Each team member gets a prize from first place to last place in order to keep up the good spirit,” said Breakey.
