Valentine’s Day night race is open

MALANSHOF – Get your running shoes ready for the KFC Randburg Harriers Valentine’s 10km night race.

The KFC Randburg Harriers 10km Valentine’s Day night race will take place on 13 February for the 27th consecutive year, and it will be held at the Randburg Central Sports Complex.

The race committee, chaired by race director Colin Scholtz, has been hard at work to make the final preparations for the event.

All the necessary approvals have been obtained, and the Johannesburg Operations Committee (JOC) has given the event its official approval.

The event is sponsored by KFC, which has been the headline sponsor of the event for six years.

”Randburg Harriers is proud to be associated with KFC. The event is much more than a road race. It uses the Valentine’s ‘love’ theme to attract many people that are not regular runners to participate. There is a party atmosphere at the venue,” remarked Scholtz.

Runners and walkers alike are encouraged to dress up, and prizes are offered for the best outfits.

There will be live entertainment, and a well-stocked bar that will provide a wide variety of liquid refreshments.

“Our sponsor KFC runs a mobile kitchen to ensure that the athletes and their families are well fed,” Scholtz added.

Out on the route, water stations will be manned by Sportsman’s Warehouse and Adrienne Hersch Properties.

Rawson Properties will provide a “yellow mile” at the top of the candle-lit hill on Maria Street.

A bagpiper will serenade the runners as they crest the hill.

A portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated to the two local charities that Randburg Harriers supports – Anne Harding Cheshire

Homes and Wiggles and Squiggles School for Children with Special Educational Needs.

Entry registrations will be done at the venue on 12 February between 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm, and on race day [13 February] from 4 pm onwards.
