Local actress can kick butt

MALANSHOF – Maggie Benedict not only excels on screen, but also in the dojo.

Local actress Maggie Benedict has a long list of accomplishments to add to her young and vibrant career.

She has a career in local television, owns a production company with her business partner and studied musical theatre in New York.

Yet, her ambition simply doesn’t stop there, for she has recently begun to train in the Olympic sport of taekwondo at the KJD Martial Arts Academy in Malanshof, where she trains under Grand Master Kwanjangnim Lee.

“I passed the dojo a few months ago and heard people yelling inside,” begins Benedict. “And I thought to myself ‘What the heck is that?’ So I went to go see.”

As it turned out, vocalising when practicing to art of taekwondo, is not only encouraged, but enforced in order to get the most out of one’s tactical movements.

Benedict began taking classes at the dojo soon after and said that it has helped her to not only defend herself as a woman, but also has helped her relieve a ton of stress.

“It helps to get aggression out of my system, aids in fitness and breathing and is by far the best thing I’ve done for myself this year.”

Benedict is well known for her role as Akhona in the popular show Generations but left the cast long before cast members were embroiled in an employment dispute.
