Football women never give up

RANDBURG - Randburg ladies gets demolished during their league games on 13 June.

Randburg Association Football Club ‘s first and second teams hosted a spectacular football league at their home ground on 13 June.

Their first team lost 1 – 0 to Crusaders Football Club from St Stithians School in Randburg. The second team could not handle the heat when they played against Linhill Football Club from the south of Johannesburg which beat them 3 – 0.

Randburg FC coach Ian McGuckin described the game as intense with goals coming from nowhere.

The three goals from Linhill FC were scored in the first half and in the second half Randburg FC managed to fight back – although they did not produce any results.

According to McGuckin, although the women did not win, both his teams made him proud. “I am very proud of my teams as we started up the women’s football only last season with 90 percent of the [second side]players having never played before. We had to begin from grass roots level, starting with the basics of first touch control and simply kicking the ball correctly,” he said.

McGuckin noted that the teams are doing well and growing satisfactory – considering that they are playing against teams that have three or more years’ experience.

“What I love the most about coaching our women is that they never give up– no matter the score and always support and encourage each other. They are stars, each and everyone,”he concluded.
