Budding tennis star to tour the UK

RANDPARK RIDGE – Tanna Brownlee beats all local opposition, now to try UK.

Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge’s Tanna Brownlee (16) was recently selected to tour the United Kingdom (UK) with the SA Schools U17 tennis team, starting on 19 June.

This came after she played as the Number 1-seeded player for Central Gauteng in the Provincial U19 High Schools Tournament in April, and won all her games, beating the Number 1 seeds from Kwa-Zulu Natal, Gauteng North and Free State.

“In the UK I hope to achieve good tennis,” she said.

“I do not want to be annihilated or annihilate anyone.”

Competitiveness is her goal and her future ambition in tennis only goes as far as reaching higher rankings (she is currently 86th in Tennis South Africa’s Girls U16 category).

Brownlee also has provincial colours in softball and made it to the last round of the Gauteng trials in netball.

Brownlee’s role model is Roger Federer because of his “excellent attitude”, professionalism and sportsmanship.

She appreciates her coaches Wayne Kets, Darren Styles and Tracey Bulmer for their input in her tennis.

Dean at the school Johan Aucamp, said that schools should motivate sports players who show potential through recognition.

This should be through awards, personal recognition and group recognition, such as at assemblies.

Brownlee also wants to own a business one day and be rich.
