Zandspruit Football Club rising

ZANDSPRUIT - The Zandspruit Football Club is confident in their U16 team but needs the communities help to grow the club.

Zandspruit Football Club is slowly on the rise and urges the community to assist them get to the top of the soccer chain.

“Our club only consists of the U16 boys at the moment because we cannot afford to have more teams.

“There are a lot of boys in our community who are keen to play the sport with our club.

“We then had to make sure we invest our time and money with the right team,” said Zandspruit Football Club U16 coach, Vusi Mathebule.

According to Mathebule the club was already established in 2007, but was only formally coined the official community football club in February this year.

“Before the Social Services department gave us our club certificate it was hard to be recognised.

“In the past sponsors would refuse to finance our club because they said we were not certified. With an actual certificate in our hands, we hope to change things,” added Mathebule.

“We are more than just a disadvantaged football club.We are a family and we are a team that has big plans for the future.

“I would like to see these boys join big teams someday. They are extremely talented, and I have faith in them.”

Pule Wesi, chairperson of the Zandspruit Football Club said, “Our community has a lot of social issues that could affect the children negatively. In their teens they are influenced to take drugs or do criminal activities.

“We wanted to create a positive environment for the boys which could help them avoid any form of trouble.”

“Currently, we have no soccer field of our own, nor do we have the finances to expand the club.

“We appeal to the local businesses and community to help us help these young people,” concluded Wesi.
