Randburg’s young record breaker

RANDBURG – Nine year old Simoné Burger takes the win at 5km race.

The 5km race of the annual SA Pork Kwai Challenge held at Randburg Sports Complex on 11 May was won by Simoné Burger.

What makes her win so special is the fact that she is a mere nine year’s old, and she competed against a multitude of adults. To add to the magic, her sister Kari (11) came in a close second.

“Their performances stunned organisers and spectators alike,” said proud mom Lelani du Plessis. “Little children simply do not have the length of stride or the power to challenge adult athletes.”

Simoné started running at age seven, and has recently obtained second place inr her age group in Gauteng schools’ cross-country running, which she prefers over circuit racing.

“Running in a circle is boring!” exclaimed an excited Simoné after winning. “When I run, I want to go somewhere.”
