Randburg Sun reader Joanne Brown, reacts to an article [Police hold a parade at Northgate Shopping Centre, week ending September 9].

Hi

I read this article and wondered why we should feel so jubilant about the “success” of this “cream of the crop”. If we have to highlight the serious crimes occurring in our country then these results are dismal. We South Africans live a threatened life because of the high violent crime rate. One dangerous weapon, one unlicensed firearm? That is dismal.

Violence including rape and murder is our biggest problem. Surely we need to have a separate unit for illegal immigrants unless we say they are the source of our violent crime? I’m sorry, but in my view, the results of this crackdown are dismal and I certainly feel no safer. Why do we continue to celebrate mediocrity (or less)?

Regards,  Joanne Brown
