No to informal trading

NORTH RIDING – Informal traders are found at many corners around Randburg and this irks many residents.

Maya Herholdt writes in response to Eking out a living, Week ending 27 January:

I am appalled that illegal informal traders have been allowed to set up shop wherever they please throughout our country.

We, the taxpayers, would like clean streets, pavements, parks and rivers. How can someone just set up a ‘shop’ without paying municipal water, toilet facilities and paying electricity to keep their goods hygienically fresh and safe to consume.

These so-called shops bring with them litter, pollution, germs, disease and illegal picnic spots where old/broken furniture is used to set up shop.

There are enough shops in our neighbourhoods that supply the same food items and which are taxed to make a better South Africa for all.

Do not come to a city expecting to get a job and rather do your homework before you become a burden to our society.
