Don’t get a pet if you cannot commit

A pet is a living, breathing creature that needs proper care.

This week is International Animal Week and the National Council of SPCA is calling on people to do something meaningful for animals.

The NSPCA’s aim of the week is to recognise and celebrate the role that animals play in our lives and the need to treat all animals with compassion and respect.

I think this can be as simple as making sure your animals are fed, have fresh, clean water (especially in this heat), have shelter and lots of love. That’s all animals really need and this is what all animal owners should be doing.

It is no secret that I am a massive animal lover and when I see animals starving and with no water, I feel absolutely sick to my stomach. Another thing that irritates the hell out of me is when I see people allowing their animals to have dozens of litters. Why in the world would you want your animals to keep on reproducing when there are so many homeless animals?

I know it comes down to educating people about the importance of sterilisation and proper animal care, but there are many educated people who just choose not to get their animals fixed.

Owning an animal is a huge responsibility and you should not get any animals if you cannot afford to feed them and make sure they have their annual check-ups at the vet. It is as simple as that, rather get a stuffed toy puppy if you cannot commit to providing the basics for a living, breathing creature.

What are your thoughts?
