One too many

My sincerest condolences to the families who have lost someone special.

Countless lives are lost every day and my heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones.

As journalists it is our job to report on these tragic incidents, and I know we sometimes come across as heartless, but this is not the case. We are human too and we do care.

August has been particularly heart-breaking as there have been some really sad stories.

The story of the 14-year-old girl who passed away in an apparent suicide, really hit home for me. No one should have to lose a child in this way and my heart goes out to her parents. To the family of the young journalism student who was knocked over on Beyers Naudé Drive, I know no words can ease your pain, but I hope that somehow you will find peace.

Whatever the circumstance surrounding any death, it is still a life lost. A life no one can ever get back and one life too many.

To the people who have lost a loved one, my sincerest condolences go out to you. The hurt of losing a family member or someone you love will never go away, but I pray that the pain will ease with time.

Let us take a moment to remember the people in our lives that we have lost, and think of the people going through that pain right now.
