Is technology taking over our lives?

How much time do you spend in front of your computer and on social networks?

Snap chat, WeChat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, the list is endless and these social media platforms are taking over our lives.

I can’t remember the last time I sat through an entire meal without checking my phone. When my eyes open in the morning and before I go to bed I have to check Facebook and several other websites.

Nowadays, when anyone is sad, mad or glad they go to social media to air their emotions. Sometimes, not thinking who is going to see the post and how they are going to react.

Other technological advancements have made it easier to find information, work on the go and connect with anyone in the world.

My question to you is, has social media and technology taken over our lives?

I think it has. Back in the day you couldn’t take your work home with you, but now everything you need is on email and you can work anywhere any time.

With all these social networks, personal face-to-face communication is almost non-existent. I personally hate texting because I feel that the tone of your message via text can easily be misinterpreted causing unnecessary drama. I’d rather pick up the phone and speak to someone.

Online dating is another bugbear for me. Not only is it dangerous to divulge your personal information online, how do you know that the person on the other end is sincere or even real?

Perhaps I am just old school, but I prefer speaking to people in the flesh.

I don’t think anyone can go without technology, but I do think like with anything, we need to use it in moderation and not rely on it for everything. There needs to be a balance and some things should stay private.

What do you think?
