Rand Park High School has Gauteng’s best maths teacher

Trudi Lingens is recognised as the province's best maths teacher at the 2022 National Teaching Awards.

Rand Park High School‘s Trudi Lingens is officially the province’s best mathematics school teacher.

The head of department of maths at the school was recognised for excellence in teaching mathematics at the 2022 National Teaching Awards, receiving first prize in the Gauteng province.

The National Teaching Awards scheme is one of the ways in which the Department of Basic Education acknowledges the extraordinary efforts made by excellent teachers. The concept of appreciating and recognising teachers has gained world-wide prominence. This was the 21st anniversary of the awards.

Lingens was nominated for the award by the Gauteng mathematics subject facilitator who is responsible for overseeing the activities of the mathematics departmental heads in the school district. Once the nomination had been verified, a detailed entry was submitted, a formal presentation was done by Lingens to the adjudication panel and evidence of success was provided. The adjudication team visited the school to meet with the senior executive, review supporting documentation and results, observe teaching and verify the content of the entry.

Alan Wilke, principal of Rand Park High School, commended Lingens on her achievements and the success of her team of professional mathematics educators.

ā€œWe are very proud of Mrs Lingens and her team,ā€ he said.
ā€œShe has high expectations of success among her learners and is an excellent educator who encourages and supports those who attend her classes as well as her colleagues.ā€

Rand Parkā€™s outstanding matric results in mathematics and science earned the school recognition for teaching and learning excellence in the Johannesburg North District, based on the overall 2021 mathematics matric pass rate, subject averages and the number of distinctions achieved in each class.
