Curro Aurora learner to dance for SA in Germany and Egypt

Local dancer placed second and third at nationals to qualify for prestigious international championships.

Curro Aurora is proud of Grade 9 learner Kalinda Harmse who has recently been selected by the South African Body of Dance to represent South Africa in Germany and Egypt for the 2022 IDO World Championships in show dance and modern dance.

Having danced since the age of seven, this achievement is huge for Kalinda as it means she will be representing her country in a sport she loves so dearly.

Kalinda Harmse looks forward to receiving her national colours in dancing.

To qualify for the championships, you need to place in the top three of your age group at a national level. Kalinda placed second for show dance and third for modern dance at nationals.

The event is also one of the greatest accolades for a dancer in South Africa as it is the only competition where you can obtain your official Protea colours in dancing.

Kalinda has already received her provincial colours for the second time as a representative for Gauteng in the nationals’ heat.

Kalinda Harmse will hit the stage in Germany and Egypt in show dance and modern dance.

She has dreamt of representing her country at the championships for the last three years and plan to dance a very special piece for the show dance section called ‘Split’ in the Germany leg.

Her modern-dance piece will be held in December in Egypt, and there Kalinda endeavours to perform a routine called ‘Desiccation’.
