Blairgowrie Primary wins big at its first chess tournament

The school entered seven teams in the tournament and saw them perform well.

Blairgowrie Primary School is proud of the success its learners achieved at their first-ever chess tournament.

Teacher, Beth Libby-Neale took several chess players to take part in the Johannesburg North-West Primary School Chess League.

Fourteen schools and 256 learners participated in the day’s matches.

Blairgowrie entered seven teams – four in the U11 section and three in the U13.

Sim D (captain U11 A team) and Declan P show off their trophy and medals for chess.

Declan P won all his matches in the U11 division and the gold medal for Board 3 in the U11 Section A.

The U11s, Sim D (captain), Nathan C, Zain M and Declan P, all received gold medals and a trophy for best team.

“This is the first chess tournament in which we have joined. Congratulations to all that participated,” said the school’s marketing and communications manager Ashleigh Barnard-McNaughton.
