The new Mr and Miss Rand Park are crowned
The event featured dancing, stage performances and audience participation to see who would be crowned the winners.
The annual Mr and Miss Rand Park fundraising pageant saw the crowning of Matthew Pretorius and Elizabeth Maritz as the overall winners.
The Rand Park High School fundraiser saw 48 learners from Grade 11 and Grade 12 sign up to walk the ramp and dress up in a costume of their choice to fit the 80s, 90s and 00s movie theme, as well as in their glamorous evening wear.
Each entrant had to source a sponsor to cover the cost of the entry fee and this, together with the ticket sales, are used to cover some of the costs of the school’s matric ball.
The annual event is a fun-filled occasion that helps to build learner confidence and offers senior learners an opportunity to get involved in something different at the school. Dance sequences, individual stage performances and audience participation and applause made the event memorable for the participants and their families.
Merlene Spies, branch owner of Figures Models Talent International in Bromhof, has been a long-standing sponsor and judge at the pageant. She was assisted by Shanice Radhalal and Taylor da Costa as judges, both of whom are involved with pageantry and modelling, as well as various community outreach initiatives.
School principal Alan Wilke congratulated the winners. “Thank you to the participants, their sponsors and parents, the judges and the staff who organised this year’s event,” he said.
