Two arrested for R100 000 worth of drugs

Provincial head of Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) in Gauteng, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa applauded the sterling work by the multi-disciplinary teams following the drug bust which resulted in removing drug peddlers from the streets.

R100 000 worth of drugs were seized and two men arrested for drug trafficking by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Gauteng.
Spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said information was received and operationalised of two foreign nationals who were allegedly dealing in drugs at a taxi rank in Randburg.

“[On 20 July] the team kept observation at the taxi rank when a white Honda CRV pulled up and one of the suspects, a ‘runner’, approached the vehicle. That’s when a plastic parcel was handed out. Both suspects were tactically approached by the team – one was arrested on the scene while the other fled but was later arrested.

“A cellphone, approximately 30 to 40 grams of cocaine, cash and a bail receipt that shows one of the suspect was arrested last month, were recovered. The bail receipt confirmed that the suspect was out on bail for possession of drugs and coincidently drugs were found in his possession.

“Preliminary investigation led the team to one suspect’s residence in Randburg and more cocaine with an estimated street value of
R100 000, a scale, seven glass containers and bicarbonate of soda were seized.”
