2 Honeydew detectives shot dead in Roodepoort

This follows the killing of three other police officers in South Africa this week.

Police are investigating a case of murder after two Honeydew police detectives were shot and killed while on duty in Roodepoort.

The two men – a constable and a sergeant – were found metres away from a state vehicle, national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said. “Gauteng police have mobilised resources to apprehend those responsible for this crime.

“The National Commissioner of SAPS General Fannie Masemola is calling on community members to take a stand against police killings. He says the killing of men and women in blue cannot continue. In the past week, the SAPS has sadly lost five police officers in the line of duty, two in the Eastern Cape and three in Gauteng.”
