Police offer R100 000 for information about Cosmo City murder

The victim died in hospital after being shot outside his home in Cosmo City.

Police are offering a R100 000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects responsible for a murder in Cosmo City.

Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said the murder goes back to April 13.

At about 20:30, Simon Kekana and his wife, Naomi, were busy towing a Toyota Avanza that had broken down outside their yard on Arkansas Crescent.

While busy with the vehicle, they were accosted by two men carrying firearms. The suspects told them to keep quiet and went to Kekana who was inside the vehicle, and shot him.

The victim was rushed to Leratong Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police say Kekana was a bread-winner for his family, and his family asked that a reward be made available to help bring justice.

Honeydew police wrote to the deputy provincial commissioner of crime detection to apply for the reward, which was approved.

Muthan said Honeydew police mentioned in their application that this is a serious crime and there is an interest in the community as to how police deal crimes of this nature.
