Four house robberies in two days in Sundowner and Cosmo City

Suspects at three of the house robberies all spoke the same foreign language.

Police have urged community members to be vigilant after four house robberies occurred within two days.

Honeydew Police Station spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed one incident was in Sundowner while the other three were in Cosmo City, all on August 11 and 12.

The house robbery in Hardekool Street, Sundowner, occurred when the complainant was bathing at home on the morning of August 12, Muthan said.

“[She] was bathing when she noticed two unknown [men] already in the house,” Muthan said.

“She was approached by one of them armed with a knife. They ordered her to keep quiet and tied her hands. She saw her helper who was already lying on the floor.”

The robbers ransacked the house and took R100 000 worth of cash, jewellery, laptop, i-Pad, and her husband’s wallet with R8 000 cash.

“[The helper] left the scene after the robbers had left. She never answered her cellphone when called by police officials. A case docket was opened.

Another house robbery occurred on Lilongwe Crescent in Cosmo City on the evening of August 11.

The complainant.. was sitting with his friends in his room [when] he heard a bang on his door,” Muthan said.”

“Five unknown males entered the room. Two of them had firearms. They demanded money and cellphones. They took four cellphones and failed to remove the plasma [TV] from the wall.”

The robbers fired a shot when leaving and also robbed two back rooms.

Another robbery happened at a home on Lilongwe Crescent 15 minutes later that same evening.

“The complainant… was walking in the passage from his back room [when] he saw an unknown male with a firearm and ran back to the room. The unknown male entered the room and two more males also entered. They demanded money and cellphones. They took one cellphone and left. They then fired two shots when leaving the scene. Both crimes scenes looked similar and all suspects were speaking [the same foreign language].”

No injuries were sustained between the two incidents.

The last house robbery in Cosmo City happened the same night, half an hour after the last robbery, on Burma Crescent.

“The complainant… was sitting in his house with his girlfriend. Suddenly two unknown males [entered]. One of them pointed a firearm. They demanded money and cellphones. They took three cellphones. They then fired two shots when leaving the scene.”

No injuries were sustained, and again these suspects were speaking the same foreign language.
