Blairgowrie based Gouws Motorsport makes a return to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit

Gouws Motorsport reflected on the past 12 months as they made their return to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, a year after their debut.

Exactly one year after their dramatic debut at the iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, the father-and-son team behind Blairgowrie based Gouws Motorsport returned, not just to compete, but to reflect on a journey marked by resilience, passion, and progress.

What began 12 months ago with a major accident in their very first race with the JForce Formula Vee race car, has since evolved into one of South Africa’s most inspiring grassroots motorsport stories. Built entirely from scratch by Johan Gouws Senior, the JForce Formula Vee car is not the product of a large team or workshop, but the outcome of countless hours spent in the garage, chasing a shared dream.

“This wasn’t just another race weekend,” said Johan Gouws Junior, driver of the JForce Formula Vee. “It was a deeply emotional return to the place where it all started. Where we first saw the car come alive, and where we faced one of our toughest moments. Coming back stronger, with a much-improved second version of the car, and mixing it up with the front runners was something I’ll never forget.”

After struggling with setup during qualifying, JForce started the race in ninth position, but delivered one of their strongest performances to date as they finish in 5th place after a race long tussle with the front runners. Despite fierce competition, the team showed just how far they’ve come in 12 short months.

The Gouws Motorsport team credits much of their development to key supporters who’ve backed their vision from the start. Arcanjo Printer Services has been a cornerstone sponsor since day one, joined by IRCA Global, Ja.co Engineering, and Advanced Fastening Systems.

“With every race, we’re not just refining a car; we’re building a legacy,” said Gouws Jnr. “To be able to do this with my dad, the man who built this car with his own hands, is something truly special.”

As the team looks ahead to the rest of the season, they do so with momentum, gratitude, and a growing belief in what’s possible when passion meets perseverance.

The next race will take place at Zwartkops Raceway on May 17.
