Tom Sundawo, a resident at the Ann Harding Cheshire Home, will be hosting his annual fundraiser 5-a-side soccer and netball tournament at Old Parks Sports Club on April 26.
The tournament is aimed at assisting Sundawo with rent at the home.

Sundawo was the victim of an armed robbery at his place of work, where he was shot in the head, leaving him a paraplegic. Although he did receive a pay out from workmen’s compensation, it is not enough to cover the monthly costs to stay at the home.
He explained that the tournament started as a casual get-together which his friends were organising. “The plan was to play 5-a-side soccer and then have a braai afterward. When they heard I was struggling with rent, they suggested we turn the event into a fundraiser, to help out and that’s how the idea came about.”
He further stated that the fundraiser helps him cover the rent, which is R4 500 per month. The money raised goes directly toward covering that cost. It makes a huge difference. “I hope everyone who comes has a great time – enjoying themselves while also supporting me by contributing towards my rent. I want it to be a fun, relaxed day out for everyone.”

The tournament promises to be a proper community day out. There will be something for everyone. People can either join in and play 5-a-side soccer or netball, or just come as spectators and enjoy the vibe. There’ll be food, drinks, music, and also a small auction on the day.
Participant don’t need to be professional soccer or netball players. It is always a fun day, with an amazing atmosphere, and would work well as a teambuilding event for your company.
There will be a cash bar on the premises, and Sundawo sells boerewors rolls, made while you wait.
Residents are urged to support by joining to play or as spectators. For each soccer team, they will need 8 players, including reserves, and for netball teams, they should also have 8 players, 7 players plus 1 reserve.
