Rand Athletic Club hosts iconic Tough One 32km run

The Rand Athletic Club’s 32km Tough One race tested 3 400 with 3 211 finishing the challenging route starting at Old Parktonian Sports Club.

The Rand Athletic Club (RAC) held its iconic Tough One 32km race on November 24, starting at the Old Parktonian Sports Club. Known for its demanding route and the stamina it requires, the event lived up to its name, drawing 3 400 runners to the starting line and seeing 3 211 cross the finish line.

The race is a highlight on the running calendar for many Gauteng athletes. According to RAC chairman Mike Rolfe, the event continues to uphold its reputation as a challenging yet rewarding test of endurance. “The Tough One represents what running is all about – pushing boundaries and achieving personal milestones,” he shared.

The race has a rich history with RAC, spearheaded by veteran organisers Dick Welch and his wife, who have been integral members of the club for more than 40 years. Their dedication to ensuring the event runs smoothly has helped establish it as a beloved tradition in Johannesburg’s running community.
