Isaac Mangena, City Power spokesperson has confirmed that authorised technicians will continue to audit and replace meters to identify and assist non-vending customers in the Randburg Service Delivery Centre (SDC) supply areas.
On November 24, City Power extended the waiver on penalty fees. This means that customers who come forward and co-operate with their technicians during this process, will not be charged penalties that range between R14 000 on a single-phase meter to R30 000 on a three-phase meter.

Mangena explained that this waiver applies to all non-vending customers in the affluent and non-affluent areas until November 30.
“We therefore, urge all outstanding non-vending customers to visit our SDCs to register their details so that they are not left behind. Any customer that has not been buying electricity due to a bridged/by-passed meter, faulty meter, or has no meter altogether, please ensure that you visit our offices or send your details through our telephone lines before the penalties are reinstated on December 01.”
The entity teams will be easily identifiable through their bright yellow bibs (vests) and will be carrying valid ID cards with their ID photo, name and surname, and expiry date.
“We appeal to residents for co-operation and to allow our officials to gain access to their properties while implementing this task.”
The program will be taking place in the following areas:
- Bryanston November 28 to 30
- Ferndale December 02 to 03
- Bordeaux December 04
- Bloubosrand December 05 to 06
- Kensington December 07
- Maroeladal December 09 to 10
- Robindale December 11 to 12
- Olievenpoort December 13
He added that City Power is aware of the growing trend amongst criminals using counterfeit meter reading credentials to enter customers’ premises to rob and demand payments.
“Our authorised agents’ credentials may be verified by calling the number reflected on their valid ID cards. Customers are strongly urged not to pay anyone for meter replacement and resetting during this period.”
For support, City Power contact centre is available on 0800 202925 or 011 490 7484. Service Delivery Centres (SDCs) customer desks are also available to assist customers during the programme rollout.
