Curro Aurora crowned 2024 Samca Champs

Joanne Quick says the Curro Aurora has had many successes in cheerleading over the years and the athletes are determined to succeed for their teams.

Curro Aurora teams participated in the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (Samca) National Championships for the eighth consecutive time to defend their titles as the 2023 winners.
The school cheerleading season began with high spirits, as both teams, Stardust and All-Star, delivered outstanding performances and secured victories in all competitions to defend their titles.
Joanne Quick, executive head at Curro Aurora said the commitment and dedication of the coaches and cheerleaders was truly commendable, and the unwavering support from the parents had proven to be invaluable.

Curro Aurora participates in the Samca National Championships.

“The excitement is electrifying for the boys and girls who compete in our two teams,” she said.
“The determination after having competed for two days at Nationals and to see the energy as they put their uniforms on again to compete at the African Championships was amazing to witness. They perform with pure pride for the school and their teammates, with each athlete knowing the contribution they bring to the final performance.”

Quick added they were immensely proud of the teams and coaches for achieving these titles again and it was due to the many training hours put in and the determination of these athletes.

“The determination to show up, even if they are injured or sick, they will arrive at practice to support from the sidelines to ensure they don’t miss out on valuable information regarding a change to routine. Being proud of the title is so much more when you know the elements that need to come into play to achieve that.”

Many of these athletes have been awarded provincial or national colours and are training with the national team for the 2025 competition in the USA.
