Cresta shopping centre opens its doors for Cupcake of Hopes, helping them raise over R2.3m

Cresta Shopping Centre was one of 74 malls that made space available for National Cupcakes Day and helped raised funds for children with cancer.

Cresta Shopping Centre once again came to the party this year and donated two spaces to Cupcakes of Hope (COH) for their National Cupcakes Day.

The community showed their support by providing 3 250 cupcakes to sell at the Cresta venue, which were sold-out. Various cancer warriors popped by to make a donation of cupcakes and help spread awareness.

South Africa’s sweetest day saw Cupcake Angels from around the country making changes in the lives of children fighting cancer. Overall they managed to raise R2 326 347. Almost 2 000 bakers took part, with 114 291 cupcakes pledged online, and 74 malls making space available for sales. South Africa truly came to the party and outdid last year’s number of funds raised, which was R2 278 525.

Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope explained that the funds will be used to assist children with cancer. Operating nationally, most beneficiaries are referred via social workers and doctors and since inception, 10,000 children and families have been assisted with support from covering medical bills and other essential needs, to transport and special requests.

“We can’t all do great things, but we can do little things with great love. And that is what COH is all about. Thank you for helping us spread cupcake love all across South Africa.”

Established in 2012 COH is a non-profit company, and a public benefit organisation dedicated to supporting children with cancer in South Africa. Through diverse initiatives and the Cupcake Angels’ (bakers) tireless efforts, they provide financial and emotional support to children and their families.

3250 Cupcakes were sold out at Cresta Shopping Centre.

They have also achieved numerous Guinness World Records to raise awareness for childhood cancer such as creating the world’s tallest tower of cupcakes, at 10.7m, and the biggest cupcake mosaic in the world. In celebration of Nelson Mandela’s centennial birthday, they also crafted a three-meter-tall Mandela cake at Sandton City.
