“This tournament means quite a bit to us as both club and players as we want to win every tournament/league we participate in. Getting our season off to a winning start builds confidence for us going into the T20s and 35 Over Premier League, which are our main objectives for the season.”

She added their preparation had been good so far with some of the players working their way back from injuries, but the rest of the squad was raring to go and ready to take on the best players in Gauteng.

Randburg and Wanderers CC have for many years been the strongest teams in women’s cricket, often competing against each other for silverware.

The chairperson of Wanderers Women’s Cricket Carryn Bell Croukamp said spectators could expect thrilling games, a lively atmosphere, and a strong community spirit as all the participating teams continue to champion women’s cricket.

“We are also strengthening the bonds between both clubs by piloting an initiative with the Central Gauteng Lions Cricket Umpires Association. This will see representatives from the women’s sections at both clubs forming a team to play a T20 against the umpires who take charge of their regular season matches.”

This initiative is aimed at growing and strengthening the bonds between the players and the umpires through the game.
