The charity shop plays a crucial role in generating funds that help the SPCA continue its important work in the community. Kennel manager Cynthia Bezuidenhout explained that the proceeds are used to support the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals, and to fund spay/neuter programmes and educational campaigns that promote responsible pet ownership.

“We rely on the shop as a consistent source of income. Every purchase made directly contributes to improving the lives of animals in need,” said Bezuidenhout.

The shop accepts a broad range of donations, from gently used clothing and household items to books, toys, and small furniture. Bezuidenhout noted that high-quality items such as antiques and working electronics are particularly appreciated, as they tend to raise more funds for the cause.

However, the shop does not accept broken or damaged items, ensuring that all donations meet a standard of quality that customers can trust. This policy helps maintain a positive shopping experience for the community while maximising the financial impact of each donation.

Community involvement has been key to the shop’s success so far. Local businesses, schools, and organisations have collaborated with the charity shop to host donation drives and joint fundraising events. These partnerships help raise awareness of the SPCA’s work while also boosting donations and foot traffic to the shop.

“The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive,” Bezuidenhout said. “Many people appreciate the opportunity to help animals by either donating items or shopping at the store. We’re seeing many repeat customers, which is fantastic.”

Running the charity shop comes with its challenges, including maintaining a steady flow of high-quality donations and competing with other thrift stores. However, the SPCA remains optimistic and is looking ahead to the future. Plans are in place to host special sale days, offering discounts on selected items to attract even more customers.

For now, the charity shop has already become a favourite destination for locals who want to make a difference while finding unique treasures.

Whether you’re looking for a bargain or want to support a worthy cause, the SPCA Randburg charity shop in Linden offers a chance to do both. Every purchase made at the shop directly supports the well-being of animals in need, helping the SPCA continue its vital work in the community.
