Old Parks hold a successful Family Fun Day
Parktown Boys and Girls High School team up at the Old Parks Sports Club for a fun-filled day that's all about community spirit, family, good food and memories.
Old Parks Sports Club in partnership with Parktown Boys and Girls high schools held a well-attended Family Fun Day.
The artisanal market had more than 80 stalls for people to browse and there was a variety of food and drinks available. Most importantly, there was a positive, friendly atmosphere throughout the day and a strong sense of family and community as people took some time out to relax.
Attendees enjoyed performances by the Montrose and Blairgowrie Primary Choirs, the girls’ school orchestra and marimba band, traditional dancers, and the boys’ school brass band. Entertainers Johan Anker, James Deacon, and Abbott and Crabb took to the stage to get feet tapping before pop group Wonderboom ended the day with a fine performance.

Learners also participated in fun activities such as tug-of-war while the adults were able to relax in the beer garden.
The success of the event was based upon a massive team effort from the staff at Old Parks, the staff, learners and parents from both schools and old boys and old girls.
Parktown Girls acting principal Gail Davidson said, “It’s not often that both schools get a chance to come together. For the families to come together and the boys and girls to socialise is really important. Old Parks is where all the old boys and girls can come, so it’s a lovely way to show the amazing premises they have and a way for us to raise the money we always need for our schools.”

Parktown Boys High head of advancement Malcolm Williams said a standout part of the day was the involvement of the learners from both schools.
He added this was especially evident in the kiddie’s area where learner volunteers looked after the children. “Staff received many compliments from visitors commending the students from both schools on their manners, their decorum, their tremendous enthusiasm, and their willingness to help out when needed,” he added.
He thanked the members of the community who enjoyed the day with them.
