Award-winning author and Bromhof resident Nthabiseng Sethoga was recognised with the South African Women Award for her contribution towards giving hope to others.
Founded by Brenda Mamputa, the awards were held on Women’s Day August 9, at Emperors Palace. Alongside others Mbokodo, they were honoured in different categories.
The awards are aimed at empowering women, promote gender equality, encourage excellence and inspire future generations.
The primary objective is to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in various fields, including:
- Business
- Arts and Culture
- Education
- Health
- Science and Technology
- Community Development
- Leadership and more.
Sethoga explained that she is proud, and it is a blessing and humbling to be honoured for being the change she wants to see.

She collects toiletries, nappies and babies from her friends and donate these to a baby shelter in Kempton Park. She mentors young people, and each year hosts a farewell lunch for Comrades Marathon runners. She was awarded in Community Development and Social Services.
“This achievement is an encouragement to continue to be hope to others. It is motivating and a reminder that in life whatever we do or say, someone is watching.”
She added that she believes every day is women’s day and women should be celebrated, honoured and respected daily.
“I honour women of 1956; they faced the challenges of their times. They acted on their conviction. They were not those who bagged down and did nothing. But they confronted the enemy at that time. We are standing on shoulders of giants. Today women can buy houses, cars for themselves. Today women can work anywhere. It is because of that Mbokodo of 1956.”
