Dazzling crowns and costumes shine at the 2024 Mr & Miss Rand Park Pageant

The 2024 Mr & Miss Rand Park pageant saw a record 52 contestants participating, showcasing creativity and community spirit in a vibrant, fun-filled event.

The 2024 Mr & Miss Rand Park pageant, held on Saturday evening, was a night to remember, marked by the theme ‘Out of this World’. The event culminated in the crowning of Kgotso Masala and Nevada Zoghby as Mr & Miss Rand Park 2024. Adding to her achievements, Nevada also won the Miss Photogenic award, making her evening even more special.

The pageant was not just a competition but a celebration of creativity and community. It featured bright lights, colourful costumes, glamorous gowns, and glittering crowns, all contributing to a magical atmosphere. This year’s theme, ‘Out of this World’, inspired contestants to bring their most imaginative and vibrant ideas to life, creating a visually stunning event.

In addition to the main titles, several other awards were given out. First runners-up went to Hayley José and Cian De Jong, second runners-up went to Michelangelo Kekumba and Cliff Onwugbonu (joint recipients) and Emma Green, best-themed outfit was taken home by Godfrey Khuvutlu, Mr Personality went to Masibulele Vongo, Miss Personality was won by Shalati Khosa, and Mr Photogenic was won by Cliff Onwugbonu.

The pageant serves a greater purpose beyond the competition. It is open to Grade 11 and 12 learners who participate to raise funds for their Matric Ball. Each contestant is required to create or find a costume that fits the pageant theme and present it to the audience, along with their casual and formal wear. This not only showcases their creativity but also their ability to present themselves confidently in front of an audience.

This year saw a record-breaking 52 learners signing up to compete for the titles. The high participation rate highlighted the event’s popularity and the enthusiasm of the students. Many contestants joined to create lasting memories, spend quality time with friends, and take part in a fun-filled event which was warmly received by the audience. The contestants dedicated several weeks to practising dance routines and perfecting their runway walks, ensuring they were ready to shine on the big night.

Principal Alan Wilke took the opportunity to thank everyone involved in making the event a success. He expressed his gratitude to the pageant sponsors, parents, the organising committee, and the esteemed judges.

The judges’ panel included Merlene Spies, branch owner of Figures Models Talent International in Bromhof, Mwila Masongo, who is an alumna of Rand Park, and winner of the 2016 Miss Rand Park title and Miss Junior South Africa 2019, Shanice Radhlalal, who is a reigning International Junior Miss South Africa and a former finalist in both Miss World South Africa and Miss Earth South Africa, and Martin Pieterse, a former international model and now primary school educator.
