Young players leave it all out on the field at Diggers
Although winning was not important and there was no trophy at the end of the games, young rugby players left it all on the field.
Rugby enthusiasts and parents came out in numbers to witness and show their support for the Golden Lions Rugby Union youth development games held at Diggers Rugby Club.
Young passionate players from the age groups of U6 to U15 from various clubs in Gauteng gathered and battled in the non-competitive games. The day aimed to improve the young players’ skills, give them game time, and an opportunity to test themselves against other clubs.
The U6 to U12s played barefoot and the U13s played with boots for the first time.
Diggers junior chairman William Wolfaardt said, “When we play games, the players get better and better. These games also help the young players to get into schools because of rugby, so these games prepare them for everything.
“The quality of rugby was high. There were good, clean games and no nasty situations. Overall, I am happy with the standard of rugby here today. Our development players become very good at the end of the season because of these games.”
