Diggers annual Golf Day: A Swinging success at Eagle Canyon

Players gathered at the Eagle Canyon Golf Course in celebration of skill and sportsmanship but also a successful fundraiser.

The Diggers Rugby Club recently hosted a successful annual golf day drawing 144 players at the Eagle Canyon Golf Course, a residential golf estate featuring 18 holes.

Excitement was in the air as participants were ready for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie.

Players donned their branded company shirts, representing a diverse range of organisations. Each participant received a branded goodie bag filled with a variety of items from sponsors such as Wax It Appleton, Biogen, Energy Bar, Sigma Circle, Jozi Cleaning, and Switch Energy Drink.

The day wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiastic support of sponsors such as Axe It, Devils Peak, Body Conscious Gym, and Fidelity. Their presence added an extra layer of excitement and engagement to the event.

Marc Baker, Diggers exco member Tyrone Price, and Ruan Botha, Diggers president.

A member of the Diggers Fundraising Committee Chané Koen said one of the standout features of the day was the Diggers’ hole, where the U8 coaches provided refreshments and kept spirits high.

“However, the highlight for many was the Axe It hole on the back nine’s 10th hole, where golfers warmed up by throwing axes, combining a unique challenge with their golfing skills.”

The prize-giving ceremony was a memorable event with Brian Mitchell as the guest speaker.
Jonathan Brits, Brandon du Plessis, Hennie du Plessis, and Arno Crone, representing Scatco, stood out as the players of the day, scoring an impressive 81 points.

The prizes, including Diggers-branded items sponsored by a small local Randpark Ridge business, Creating Infinity, were well-received, showcasing the club’s commitment to celebrating excellence.

Dustin Hoffman, JP Smith, Ruan Smith, and Andries Coetzee from Eight 7 Rugby.

“Along with the prize-giving, there was also an auction featuring signed pieces from well-known rugby players, golden gloves signed by Brian Mitchell, a bow tent sponsored by Campmor, and a TV, among other actionable items. The event was not only a celebration of skill and sportsmanship but also a successful fundraiser.”

The founders of Eight7 Rugby also attended the event. Their four-ball included well-known rugby players JP and Ruan Smith, who most recently played for the Lions, Springbok Andries Coetzee and Dustin Hoffman.
