Randridge Residents Association to host first Market and Family Day

Director of the RRA, Quinn Lubbe, says there will be a host of activities taking place throughout their first Market and Family Day, including a jumping castle for the kids and a tug-of-war competition.

Preparations are well underway as the Randridge Residents Association (RRA) gets ready to host their first Market and Family Day on July 13.

The market, situated inside Loerie Park, on the corner of Kayburne Avenue and Tiptol Streets in Randpark Ridge, will have a range of exciting stalls and family-friendly activities available on the day.

Residents are urged to bring their camping chairs, picnic baskets, and blankets and come enjoy a day of fun and sun in the park. There will also be a visit from the fire department, kid’s tug-of-war, a bake-off competition, a car boot sale, and the Salvation Army will also be on site with their fantastic brass band.

Director of the RRA Quinn Lubbe explained that this is their first market and they are excited to be bringing something new to the community.

“As the association, we wanted to host a family-oriented event that would bring people together, while also supporting our local businesses, vendors, and charities. We felt that a market and family day would be a wonderful opportunity for residents to meet, spend time with one another, and showcase the talents within our area through the items that local businesses make and sell. We are also extending [an] invitation to our surrounding communities to foster collaboration and closer ties with those around us.”

Families are encouraged to bring along any gently worn clothing, or any other items for donation to the Salvation Army, and there will also be a stall taking in knitted squares for donation to Beanies for Beings and Kindness like Confetti. All donated squares will qualify for an entry into a lucky draw for one lucky person to win a pamper hamper.

She added that events like this are essential for the community. They foster unity and involvement, helping residents build stronger social ties and a sense of belonging.

“This cohesion enhances safety and security, as neighbours who know and trust each other look out for one another. Additionally, these events support local businesses and vendors, strengthening our local economy and community spirit.”

The market starts at 10:00, but residents are invited to come early to book their spot overlooking the beautiful views of Northcliff Hill and the Johannesburg City skyline.

There are a variety of hand-crafted wares that will be on sale, such as hand-painted ceramics, stained-glass decorations, mosaics, crocheted soft toys, and pet products. There will also be an onsite vet from Dog Trust, should families wish to bring their dogs through for affordable vaccines and grooming.

“We encourage families to enjoy a day in the park. Our team of dedicated RRA volunteer street leaders and directors are hard at work bringing all the pieces together. It’s hard work, but we know it is going to be worth it, and we can’t wait to see everyone there.”
