Randburg Angels dominate Bantwana in a five-goal thriller

Randburg Angels got the confident 4–1 victory over Bantwana College before the Engen Knockout Challenge.

Randburg Football Club ladies’ team (Randburg Angels) wiped the floor with Bantwana College in an exciting Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) five-goal thriller.

The home side dominated almost the whole first half pressing the visitors high on the pitch and forcing them to lose possession easily. Bantwana struggled to contain and deal with the Angels attack and could not find a way out of their half.

The visitors’ goalkeeper Kamogelo Nobathane did all she could to keep her team in the game with some big saves. Randburg forward Lesedi Molete opened the score sheet giving her team a breather after missing a couple of chances (1–0). The game opened up for Randburg. They were a bit calm on the ball and rotated it very well and created more clear chances.

Ansar Patel had another big opportunity to double the lead for the home side, but Nobathane was equal to the task and kept her team on the game. Molete was not done, she dribbled past defenders and beat the goalkeeper to make 2–0 just before half-time.

Both teams made substitutions in the second stanza with the Angels looking to put the game to bed and Bantwana hoping to get an early goal and keeping their comeback hopes alive.

Milani Stobber of Randburg was a thorn in the side of Bantwana defenders. She looked dangerous in every attack and whenever she had a ball on her feet. She extended the lead with a powerful shot and gave her side a 3–0 lead.

Bantwana was able to get one goal back, but Patel quickly gave Randburg the three-goal lead and made sure they are taking all three points (4–1).

Angels coach Liam Brookes explained that it was a good game as some of the girls had not played in weeks.

“I thought some girls were a bit rusty, but it was very good 4–1; I don’t think it a fair reflection of the game – we could have had more goals. We worked on finishing but I am happy in terms of play and finishing.”

He added that he is happy with the substitutions that chanced the game, and the girls will be more confident going to the Engen tournament.

“I am glad we have a team that is good enough; we have the girls that can come in the game and perform. They should be very confident going to the tournament. It is our first time and we will face more experienced teams, but they should go there and believe in themselves.”
