Fontainebleau resident hopes for better service delivery

Fontainebleau resident Andre Kruser is concerned about the lack of service delivery in the area and demands entities to attend to the issues that are reported.

Fontainebleau resident André Kruser is concerned about the lack of service delivery in the area and with a reinstatement issue that recently passed its one year anniversary – and still awaiting final repairs on Annie Road.

The issue is one of many that Kruser had reported and received nothing but ticket numbers. He has also followed up numerous times, but his requests have all been ignored – Joburg Water does not come out to finish the work.

Kruser explained that an audit of their inboxes will show all the communication.

“The initial problem was a massive water leak; it was reported in May last year (2023). Joburg Water came out just before June 10, 2023. They did some kind of excavation and then left the site. On June 16, they came out with a mechanical back actor to do further diggings. In the process, the kerb was damaged, and a huge piece was excavated. At the same time, they completely wrecked the tar surface too – while attempting to dig the hole.”

He added that there was absolutely no reason for this – and can only presume the operator did not have a full grasp on how to operate the unit.

“From what I saw and know this could have easily been done by hand and with spades and the infrastructure would not have suffered the damage that is now evident and costing a lot to complete the repairs that have not been facilitated.”

One year later nothing has been repaired and there is no indication when final repairs will be done.

“I reiterate – many emails have been sent to Joburg Water requesting a date of repairs – they have not been answered at all. Incidentally, this is not the only unfinished work in the area. There are many jobs that are only half reinstated and require complete repairs and reinstatement – all Joburg Water.”

Kruser has logged calls to report almost every issue that he comes across in Fontainebleau – from potholes, sinkholes, streetlights, reinstatements, water leaks, unpainted roads and missing stop signs. Some of the logged calls go way back to 2022 and all he has received are reference numbers and promises that they will be fixed.

He walks or runs in the area for exercise sees a lot of these issues and logs calls when he returns home.

“I am sure this is not the standard Service Level Agreement (SLA) in terms of repairs. Such delays are unprofessional and unacceptable. The behaviour of not replying to all the numerous follow-up communications is equally unprofessional.”

Kruser added that given the extreme delay (more than a year) with no action in this matter he requests the following without delay:

  • Final repairs are now required as a matter of urgency as this has now been outstanding for far too long.
  • Supply a date when final reinstatement and repairs are going to take place.
  • Kindly provide contact details for those who will be responsible for the repairs by providing an email address and easy-to-reach telephone number.
  • Acknowledge receipt of this communication by return of email – so that it does not have to be sent again.

Questions were sent to Joburg Water about the issue, but no response had been forthcoming by the time of going to print. However,it will be published once made available.
