The Comrades Marathon, often described as the ultimate human race, covers approximately 90 kilometres between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. For Rolfe, this year’s race marked a decade of pushing her limits and demonstrating unwavering resilience.

Her long-distance running journey began 12 years ago when her father challenged her to take on the Comrades Marathon. “I remember my first race vividly, as 2013 was one of the hottest Comrades ever recorded.
“It was so hot that some people were collapsing of heat stroke; it felt like we were literally in World War 1 but I kept going and managed to push myself to keep going.”
That initial gruesome experience would spark a lasting love for ultramarathon running.

This year she ran to raise awareness and money for SANParks. “Comrades is an absolute passion of mine and to encompass it with running with a charity would only be a privilege. I believe in giving back as much as we can and with this charity helping SANParks, I believe that they can only benefit so much. Kindness above everything,” she added.

The best part about receiving the green number for Rolfe is not only the perks that come with it but the support she received from total strangers cheering for her and the amazing people she met during the run.

Delaine Cools, marketing manager for the Comrades Marathon said, “Having a green number is a phenomenal achievement in the Comrades Marathon community. Fellow runners, fans, and supporters can identify runners wearing a Green race number/bib. Members also receive a green number card that looks similar to a credit card that can be used to buy merchandise only for Green Number Club members.

Her achievement has not only brought her fulfilment but has also inspired others in her community. Many local runners in Randburg look up to her as a role model and a source of motivation.
