Sharonlea racer takes a big win at Redstar Raceway

Kernick achieved top five finishes in both races, second fastest lap in race 1, first place in Class C+ for the day and some good close racing at the Silvercup.

Sharonlea-based racer Michael Kernick competed in the recent Silvercup 2.0 at Redstar raceway.

It was cold with a temperature of two degrees during the qualifying race. Kernick nearly got crashed into but managed to get sixth place overall and was happy with that on the short-track layout.
In the chaotic start of race one, he had two cars on either side of him. The one closed the gap and they made light contact but luckily it did not damage the vehicle.

“After I fell back a bit, I got my head down and managed to make my way back up through the field to end up with a very close three-car dice for third place overall which was exciting, I tried everything I could to get past others but couldn’t make it through, so fourth place overall and first place in Class C+ was a top result.”
He also managed to set the second-fastest lap time of the race, missing out on the fastest lap by 0.1 of a second. “It’s so cool to have had the second fastest lap of the race, especially since the cars in front of me all have more powerful engines.”

Race 2 was on the long track and he started fourth on the grid. Kernick got a good start and powered his way into second place behind GRD Motorsports’ Giles Darroch.

“Most of the first lap it was him and I first and second before the faster cars came through. I loved having the opportunity to be in front for a short time. After a lonely race due to the field spreading out, I ended up finishing fifth and first place in Class C+.

He added it was a great result on the long track considering he beat some of the bigger engine cars.

“What an amazing day with the Nash [car]. These results are good as I am currently second overall in the Silvercup 2.0 championship. Thank you to everyone involved and who helped to make the race happen. All the effort is greatly appreciated.”
