Sundowner dojo brings home 12 medals

The head of the dojo, Brendon Parker, said that he is extremely proud of all the participants.

The Brendon Parker Martial Arts dojo, affiliated with JKS Shotokan Karate, had a stellar performance at the JKS National Tournament held at the Portuguese Hall. The dedicated team from Sundowner walked away with an impressive total of 12 medals, marking a significant achievement in their competitive journey.

Brendon Parker, the esteemed head of the dojo, expressed his pride and excitement over the dojo’s success. “I am really proud that we got an amazing 12 medals at the JKS National Tournament.”

Holding a prestigious 6th Dan Japanese grade, Parker brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his students. “I’ve been practising karate for 42 years. I teach traditional as well as sports karate,” he said. His dedication to both traditional and competitive karate has cultivated a dojo of extraordinary talent, which was evident throughout the competition.

The tournament featured a diverse range of competitors, with participants from the Sundowner dojo ranging in age from as young as five to as mature as 53. Parker highlighted the exceptional skills displayed by his students, noting, “They all have amazing talent and excelled through the competition.”

Among the dojo’s many accomplishments, one standout performance came from Protea karateka Bili Tian. Parker proudly shared, “Our very own Protea karateka Bili Tian excelled and won his division with the final as the fight of the day.” Tian’s remarkable performance not only secured his victory but also earned him the honour of representing South Africa in an upcoming international competition in Namibia. “We are really proud that he has the opportunity to represent the country and we wish him well,” Parker said.
