Randburg CPF exco takes second term in office

Mzi Khumalo explained that the exco is responsible to maintain the partnership between police and community.

It is almost a full year since the appointment of the Randburg Community Police Forum (CPF) executive committee (Exco).

This team led by Christopher Kennedy responded to the call to volunteer made at the annual general meeting in May 2023.

Public relations Mzi Khumalo explained that the outgoing team laid bare the challenges that they would hand over with none of the past exco members available or eligible for re-election.

“This new team was to take on this challenge as novices in June 2023. The participation of the Randburg police members in the CPF structure proved helpful in inducting the new team and ensuring continuity.”

According to Khumalo, the post-1994 South Africa-initiated Sector Policing. This is the division of areas into smaller managerial sectors and the assigning of police officers to these areas on a full-time basis.

“This policing approach supports community and partnership policing. The CPF according to the SAPS Act 1995, is to provide partnership to SAPS in liaising with the community and fighting crime.”

He added that it is the duty of the station commissioner to establish, induct and support the CPF.

“It is under these auspices that the CPF operates. After undergoing probity and getting police clearance, the members took on their duties beginning of June 2023, for a five-year term.”

Also, in the exco are the chairpersons of the three sectors: Mogale Malatji – Sector 1, Lawrie Golding – Sector 2, and Linda Bester – Sector 3.

They meet once a month with the representatives of the Randburg SAPS and the Joburg Metro Police Department.
