Power cut affects water supply in Randburg and surrounds

There are a number of water tanks provided by Rand Water located in Wards 100, 101, 104, 113 and 114.

The Rand Water maintenance work at the Zwartkopjes pump station has been completed, however, pumping is affected by a power failure.

Rand Water’s spokesperson Makenosi Maroo confirmed that the power failure happened after 18:00 June 26. “Eskom technicians managed to find and repair the fault, however, the following reservoirs will be affected, Forest Hill, Benoni, Meadowdale and Yeoville. All areas within the City of Johannesburg and the City of Ekurhuleni are supplied from the Zwartkopjes pump station and the mentioned reservoirs will be affected.”

Some systems supplied by Zwartkopjes are steadily recovering, however, the following systems are still struggling:

Eikenhof Pump Station 

Work is in progress and the station is currently pumping at 67%. Most Johannesburg Water systems supplied by Eikenhof are critically low or empty.

Randburg System

Most Randburg reservoirs and towers are currently empty due to no incoming supply.

Johannesburg Water continues to provide alternative water supply while the maintenance work continues.

The following reservoirs are low, but supplying normally: Boshkop, Cosmo City, Honeydew and Randpark Ridge.
