Rand Water shutdown – what you need to know about the dates, times and areas affected

The proactive maintenance is scheduled and focused on preserving the quality, integrity, and lifespan of the water infrastructure.

In a move to ensure the reliability and efficiency of its water infrastructure, Rand Water is set to embark on an extensive proactive maintenance programme from June 22 to July 29. This initiative aims to preserve the quality and integrity of the infrastructure, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and increase the lifespan of assets.

As part of its asset management strategy, Rand Water will conduct two types of maintenance: proactive (planned) and unplanned. The proactive maintenance is scheduled and focused on preserving the quality, integrity, and lifespan of the water infrastructure.

To ensure reliability during the higher demand summer season, Rand Water plans its maintenance during the low-water demand season in winter or during the December holiday season. The entity has engaged with its municipal customers and notified them about the upcoming maintenance project to ensure they have a 21-day period to plan and prepare.

The planned maintenance work will affect several systems, including Eikenhof, Zwartkopjes and Palmiet. The affected areas include various municipalities, including Johannesburg Water, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, and others. Below are only the water outages which will impact Joburg North.

24–27 June 2024

Systems Affected:
Eikenhof System

Eikenhof will be pumping at 50%
for 8 hours and 67% for the
remaining 64 hours.

26 June–13 July 2024

Systems Affected:
Eikenhof System

Eikenhof will be pumping at 83%
for 15 days.

Palmiet pumping will be reduced
to 68% for 50 hours.
