Old Parks Sports Club officially opens their refurbished bar

Old Parks Sports Club sadly says goodbye to two of to their barmen, Willie and Martin.

Old Parks Sports Club has officially opened their newly revamped main bar area and also bid an emotional farewell to two of its long-serving barmen, Willy Matlhala and Martin Maeteletja.

The occasion was attended by the family of the barmen, friends, and club members.

The chairman of the club Ken McArthur said, “I’m thrilled we had a good turnout. Secondly, the most important thing to me is that we were able to wish Willy and Martin all the very best.”

Matlhala has been serving the club members for 34 years and Maeteletja for 24 years.

Matlhala said he was sad to leave his colleagues he had worked with for so long.

“I learned a lot here. I came here not knowing anything and I learned it all here. I’ll miss the place as it was my home for the last 34 years. It is a sad time but also a great time with all the changes happening at the club. Unfortunately, some changes when I am leaving but I am grateful.”

Maeteletja added, “My time here has been really good. I’ll miss arguing with the customers when they’re tipsy. I learned a lot at this place and, sadly, I am leaving.”
