FVA Sandton Tigers Royals clinch victory against Wanderers Red
With stunning performances and strategic plays, the Sandton Tigers clinched the win, marking a significant achievement in their season.
The FVA Sandton Tigers Royals emerged victorious against the Wanderers Red in a thrilling cricket match held on May 19 at the Wanderers Club.
The Diadora Jozi Cup match, marked by intense competition and outstanding performances, saw Tigers Royals secure the win with a decisive performance.
According to the tournament director Reuben Mandlazi, it is a winter tournament aimed at showcasing talent at the club level.
“The exciting matches of U11s in the clubs demonstrate the talent that exists. We are excited about the future of Lions cricket in the years to come. I hope we will be watching one or two of them play for South Africa one day.”
Tigers Royals coach Abraham Nare said, “We had our first win against the Wanderers; we chased 125, winning by 7 wickets.”
He added his team got off to a slow start but picked up the run rate at the end.
“Our bowling was decent, though we still need to improve our fielding and batting as our middle order and tail end are yet to get better at getting us big scores.”
Nare highlighted that his boys were U10s and were preparing them for next year’s tournament.
“Zayed Gasat was the man of the match, and he portrayed good playing skills in the entire game.”
Wanderers Red coach Lungile Ndlovu acknowledged the Tigers Royals’ superior performance.
“They played a great game and we have to give credit where it’s due. We will analyse our performance and come back stronger in the next match,” he said.
Ndlovu added his team played quite well, batting first and posting a score of 126 with a good partnership from Ross Lavery and Soham Chhita.
“Ross ended with a half-century, and we took to the field to defend our score and started by taking two early wickets but the Sandton Tigers managed to come back in the middle overs of their innings and capitalised on some dropped catches and misfields from Wanderers, and that cost us the game.”
