Local resident helps raise Herd awareness

Kyle Malyon embarked on a solo motorcycle ride, across the country to raise awareness for HERD Trust and the work they do with orphaned elephants.

Kyle Malyon, a resident of Jukskei Park, is currently doing a solo motorbike ride around the country to raise awareness for the Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development (Herd) trust.

Malyon, departed on March 17 to complete what he has dubbed ‘The Mammoth Ride’. This trip will take him along the closest tar roads to land and sea borders, circumnavigating South Africa. This will be done solo on his motorcycle and completed in 21 days.

His aim is to raise funds and awareness for the Herd Trust, and South Africa’s first elephant orphanage. Prior to leaving on his journey, he hosted various fundraising events, and with the help of friends, local businesses, the motorcycle community and musicians he has already raised substantial awareness and funds for the organisation.

He hosted The Amazing Mammoth Race. Various teams participated to get to six out of seven points around the northern suburbs.

He also held a mass motorcycle ride where around 40 bikers joined and they raised around R11 000 towards the cause. “We then hosted a music and craft beers afternoon, the following bands donated their time to entertain the crowd -Swamp Dog, Lazarus Johnson and Walking Down Essex – once again we raised another R10 000.”

Talking to Malyon during his journey, he explained that the trip was going well and he had done 3000km of the planned 7000km.

On his journey Kyle Maylon bonds with elephants.

“I have been through six provinces so far. Was really amazing to spend some time at Herd and interact with the elephants. The people of our country are extremely friendly as I pass through the different regions and very happy to talk about the elephants and hear what Herd is doing.”
