New revenue centre opens after fire

The director of customer communications for the City of Johannesburg’s group finance department, Kgamanyane Maphologela, said the move is an attempt to continue to provide uninterrupted services to residents.

In response to a fire that gutted the Randburg Customer Service Centre last year, the City of Johannesburg has taken measures to ensure the continuity of services by establishing a temporary customer service centre at the Ferndale Recreational Centre. This move aims to minimise disruptions to essential services for residents in the Randburg area, known as one of the city’s busiest walk-in centres.

Kgamanyane Maphologela, director of customer communications for the City of Johannesburg’s group finance department, emphasized the city’s commitment to providing uninterrupted services to residents. “The move to establish the temporary customer service centre is an attempt to continue to provide uninterrupted services to our residents. We want to demonstrate that we are a caring City and want to ensure that our residents are not negatively impacted.”

Maphologela said the temporary centre is staffed with a dedicated team to ensure efficient operations. “It will include 14 customer relations agents, four operational managers, three cashiers, and one assistant director. Operating hours are from 07:30 to 15:30 Monday to Friday, with extended hours until 15:30 on Thursdays and from 07:30 to 12:30 on Saturdays.”

Located at 38 Harley Street, Ferndale, the centre offers a wide range of services including new connections, query logging, balance enquiries, billing queries, refund applications, payments of accounts, water and electricity supply services, and much more. Additionally, residents can request services such as change of ownership, duplicate statement reprints, pensioners rebates, and meter test applications.
