Resident concerned about lack of service delivery

Fontainebleau resident Andre Kruser wishes there could be better service delivery in the area.

Fontainebleau resident Andre Kruser is concerned about the lack of service delivery in the area and wants the City of Joburg entities to do their job.

Kruser has logged calls to report almost every issue that he comes across in Fontainebleau – from potholes, sinkholes, streetlights, reinstatements, water leaks, unpainted roads and missing stop signs. Some of the logged calls go way back to 2022 and all he has received are reference numbers and promises that they will be fixed.

Kruser said when he walks or runs in the area for exercise, he sees a lot of these issues and logs a call when he returns home.

Andre Kruser is upset about the lack of service delivery in Fontainebleau.

“I do it so that the infrastructure can be maintained and repaired quickly. It is their job to do these things and as such, they should log them.”
He added in the apparent absence of a maintenance plan from the city, he deemed it a requirement that residents assisted these entities in knowing where they needed their work to be directed.

“They responded to a new mail I sent for 19 problems on the road, with reference numbers, but none of the others have been addressed yet. In some cases, their work lasts, but if I look at some work it is substandard at best. One example is the potholes that keep reappearing on Maria Road. I also reference a patch job on Rabie Road at the corner of Bou Avenue. They have come out numerous times to fix the same spots, this time it seems to be holding for now.”

Some other issues that Kruser has logged with the city are streetlights on Rabie Streets which have not been working for about two years. Also, some stop signs have not been replaced for two years even though the JRA was made aware of it.

“Joburg Water does not come out and repair and neither do they reply to new calls logged… Power lines in a few places are low, they are dangerous, and they are not lifted.”
In response to streetlights not working on Rabie Street, City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena confirmed that recently, their public lighting team had conducted investigations to establish the cause of this.
They discovered that the streetlights had been vandalised.

“Our team is currently on site rewiring and conducting repairs on all vandalised control boxes and streetlight poles. We have also roped in external contractors to beef up our team on the ground to speed up the process of restoring power supply and keep the
streetlights in the area on.”

Residents are encouraged to log calls at citypower.mobi or on 011 490 7484. Alternatively, residents can call the toll-free line on 0800 202 925.

Joburg Water and JRA were contacted for comment but had not responded by the time of going to print.
